7517462504_c95178d4e3Wouldn’t it be great to have 51% of us fierce and passionate women at the Occupy National Gathering! The Occupy movement will convene in the vicinity of the State Capitol Park for trainings, ceremonies, discussions and movement building, July 30-August 3!

We will be holding the National Occupy Feminist General Assembly on Friday, August 1 at 6pm! We need you! Join the Facebook event page for updates! Twitter: @womenows #FemGA #NatGat2014

Feminist GA was an offering created by the Women Occupying Wall Street (WOWs) in New York! WOW was Women Occupying Wall Street, a caucus of OWS that included women and female-identified people and their allies of any gender.  WOW worked for gender justice and an end to gendered violence both inside and outside Occupy. The Feminist GA goes far beyond OWS. But we understand the vital role of gender justice to Occupy’s vision of an economically just, democratic society that promotes the well being of everyone, not just the 1 Percent. There are lots of definitions of feminism. Some people reject the word altogether. That’s something the GA is grappling with. But we decided to use the word because we believe *feminism*powerfully sums up a worldview: one that rejects the domination of one ngroup by another, be they men, the wealthy, or well-armed nations.

KjgK-9In 2012, we rocked it in Philly! We brought the voices of the 51% of the 99% in a Feminist General Assembly (FemGA). The turnout was amazing with people from all across the country participating and engaging in shared values and meaning of feminism and how it has affected their lives. This gathering was attended by feminists of all genders. (View)

The FemGA resulted in two working groups — action and women’s declaration. On the Fourth of July in 2012, we went into action creating a “Revolution Now” human billboard in front of Independence Hall and singing songs of peace along the July 4th parade route.

One Billion Rising! I Heart The Truth!

This year, CODEPINK is joining V-Day in its One Billion Rising For Justice campaign! I Heart The Truth addresses the need to RISE for JUSTICE for incarcerated and exiled whistle-blowers who have exposed the truth. Whether it’s releasing the Iraq war logs or documents on NSA domestic spying, the whistle-blowers seeking corporate and government transparency have endured severe consequences.

CODEPINK will RISE this February 14 to celebrate the courage of imprisoned transgender woman Chelsea Manning! We will also RISE for whistle-blowers Edward Snowden, John Kiriakou and Jeremy Hammond. Will you RISE with us?

“ONE BILLION RISING FOR JUSTICE is a global call to women survivors of violence and those who love them to gather safely in community outside places where they are entitled to justice -‐ courts, police stations, government offices, colleges, work places, military courts, places of worship, homes. It is a call to survivors to break the silence and release their stories – politically, spiritually, outrageously -‐ through art, dance, marches, ritual, song, spoken word, testimonies and whatever way feels right.”
